Nadine M. Gibson, born November 20th 1932, peacefully reached the end of her life’s journey on Sunday May 29, 2022, with the same unwavering spirit, love and kindness that touched so many lives during her 89 years.
Nadine's life journey began in 1932, in Portland, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late John and Agnes Swetnam. Nadine passed away in her family home in Fort Wayne, Indiana, one in which she filled with so many loving memories as a wife, mother, grandma, great grandma and friend. If there is no greater calling than to love others, then fewer lives have been more well-lived. You won’t find her name in newspaper clippings or fixed upon the edifice of a building, but indelibly etched forever on the hearts of those fortunate enough to cross her path. Above all, Nadine found joy in her family. She made it a priority that her children had access to the arts, music lessons, art lessons, and skating lessons. Not to mention the day camps and “away” camps, as well as a taxi service for any and all sporting events. Her love of music was a large part of her life, and she passed that along to all of us. While her absence will be felt by all who loved her, there is peace in knowing that she now returns to her true love, the late Dick Gibson, who married her 70 years ago this past January 12th.
Nadine is survived by her sons, Robert (Treva Bauer) Gibson of Noblesville, IN, and Paul (Tonia) Gibson of Fort Wayne, IN; her grandchildren (6), Greg and Denis (Knuth), Nicholas, Rachel and Julia (Gibson) and Jack (Gibson); and great-grandchildren (4), Peter, Charles, Gwendolyn and Mackenzie (Knuth). She is preceded in death by her husband, Dick L. Gibson, in 2008; sister, Colleen Spears; brother, Duane Swetnam; daughter, Lora L. Knuth. Nadine was a member of Crescent Ave United Methodist Church, Delta Gamma Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Fort Wayne New Comers, Gourmet Club and retired from Allstate Insurance Company, after many years of service as an administrative assistant.
A funeral service to honor Nadine's memory will be held on at 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 9th, 2022, at D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave, Fort Wayne, with visitation / viewing at the funeral home to begin at 10:00 am, until time of service. She will be laid to rest in Riverview Cemetery, Churubusco, Indiana.
Memorial donations in her honor may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the Gibson family at www.McCombandSons.com.
