Nancy Gayl Fitzjarrald

Nancy Gayl Fitzjarrald, age 63, of Muncie, Indiana, passed away on June 5th, 2026. After nearly nine remarkable years of strength and courage navigating cancer, she passed away peacefully in her home.

Nancy was born on August 25, 1962, in Anderson, Indiana to Marvin and Judy Jackson. She was raised in the Alexandria, Indiana area on her family’s farm. When she wasn’t making memories with family, both immediate and extended, she found passions in horses, fishing, wildlife and simple country life. Her warm spirit and love for life drew others to her and built lifelong relationships she cherished. After graduating from Madison Grant high school, she attended Apex Beauty School in Anderson, IN.

For almost 38 years, Nancy made her living as a hairdresser, a profession that suited her perfectly as she had a gift for making people feel cared for and beautiful. That same generosity led her, before her own diagnosis, to volunteer time and skills to help patients with hair loss rediscover their confidence and sense of self. She had a quick wit, a hint of sarcasm, and a laugh that was utterly contagious. To her children's friends, she was the neighborhood mom, the one whose door was always open, and her house was warm and welcoming. Away from the salon, she filled her days with the things she loved: gardening, birdwatching, cooking, and painting, for she was truly artistic at heart. Above all, she loved her family fiercely and would drop anything, at a moment's notice, to be there for them.

She is survived by her husband Mike Fitzjarrald, daughter Katey (Brian) Souers, son Brent (Katelyn) Spahr, step-daughter Megan (Nate) Follis, step-daughter Kelsey (Chris) Sadler, brother Mike (Peggy) Jackson, sister Susie (Joe) Dawson, step-sister Lori (Brian) Levine, step-brother Bob Hussle/Eric Erickson, step-mother Ellen Jackson, grandchildren Jaxson and Oliver Souers, Greyson, Elliot, Penelope, Callahan and Collins Spahr.

She was preceded in death by her father Marvin Jackson, mother Judy Townsend and sister Jennie Jackson.

Funeral service will be 4:00 pm Monday, June 15, 2026, at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home 1320 E. Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, IN with visitation from 1:00-4:00 pm.
