Obituary of Patricia Ann De Mond
Patricia Ann Bullis De Mond, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. She was born at home in Hudson, Michigan, on January 7, 1927, to parents Paul and M. Waive (Laser) Bullis. She enjoyed acting in her high school performances, and remained friends with her classmates until her death. She matriculated to Michigan State College, (now MSU) and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work in 1948. Pat met her true love, Jim, at the Student Union on campus following the war. She was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, and remained engaged following graduation with the National Pan-Hellenic Council for women’s sororities. For the last 70 years, Pat met for golfing and lake vacations with her sorority sisters. Pat and Jim were loyal Spartan fans, never missed a game, and flew the MSU flag with pride. Pat and Jim were married in Hudson on September 4, 1948. They remained devoted to one another their entire loving 70 year marriage. The De Monds also shared a love of bridge and sailing, and sailed the Great Lakes each summer with good friends from college, Jack and Muriel Rillema. Pat was an avid reader and always kept up to date with current events and politics! When her children were in high school, she became a small business owner of the Weathervane Antique Shoppe; and at age 50 she attained an accounting degree, later serving as the accountant at her church. She retired as the Assistant Director for the Fort Wayne Medical Society. She was a member of the Art League and volunteered for Head Start. Faithful Christians, the De Monds were active in their beloved church, Trinity Episcopal, where Pat served on the Altar Guild and was a lifelong member of St. Barbara’s Guild. She was an example of faith, strength, common sense and charm to all who knew and loved her. She had 80 living close girlfriends at the time of her 80th birthday! She loved family gatherings, grandchildren and dogs abounding, and was devoted to her family, often bringing a basketful of food to her adult children. She loved her 6 grandchildren and her 5 sweet “greats”. Preceding her in death were her loving husband, James Stewart De Mond, her mother M. Waive Bullis: a gold star WW ll mother, and brother, Donald E. Bullis, killed in action. Her father, Paul E. Bullis died in 1932. Pat is survived by her children: daughter Camille (Dr. William) Pond, and son D. Paul (Diana) De Mond; grandchildren: Evan (Dr. Jill Anderson) De Mond, Jeremy DeMond, Jennifer (Jon-Jon) Knepp, Joel Aiken, Dr. Gregory (Amy) Pond, Scott Pond; and sweet great-grandchildren: Beatrice, Walker, Eleanor, and Holden Knepp, and Catherine De Mond. Also surviving is her brother-in-law John E. De Mond of Alanson, Michigan; nieces Laurie (Gerald) Rosen, Cheri (Jeff) Lusis, nephew Wade (Michelle) De Mond; Laser cousins and great-nieces and nephews. Also included as family are life-long dear friends, the Rillema Family. Funeral service will be on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Trinity Episcopal Church (611 W. Berry Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46802) at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be on Friday, October 12, 2018, at church from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. .Private burial will take place at Waldron Cemetery, Waldron, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to: Trinity Episcopal Church, 611 West Berry Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46802.
