Patricia was born on June 22, 1934, in Fort Wayne to the late Walter and Genevieve (Mulligan) Gildea. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and a woman whose kindness and generosity touched everyone who knew her.
Her Catholic faith was central to her life. She was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life.
Pat enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, including watching movies—especially classic black-and-white films—reading, and working on puzzles. Some of her happiest memories were made during the summer months at the family cottage on Westler Lake, where she spent time with her beloved husband, Winfield, their children, grandchildren, and other loved ones.
Above all, Pat cherished her family. She showed her love in countless thoughtful ways, always making sure those closest to her knew they were in her thoughts. Her children and grandchildren will especially miss the daily “good morning” text messages she faithfully sent to each of them. Those simple messages became treasured reminders of her constant love and presence.
Patricia is survived by her children, Cynthia Vachon, Jeanne DuMont, Lori (Douglas) Jehl, Sandra (Michael) Savage, David Vachon, and Stephen (Kristy) Vachon; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Her love, traditions, and legacy will continue through them for generations to come.
She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Winfield Vachon; son, Michael Vachon; sisters, Mary Miller and Joyce Mieseler; and brother, Paul Gildea.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4500 Fairfield Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46807, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46809. Burial to follow the Mass at St. Aloysius Catholic Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
Patricia leaves a beautiful legacy, defined not only by the years she lived but also by the love she gave so freely. Her family will treasure memories of summers at Westler Lake, her unwavering faith, her generous heart, and the morning messages that reminded them they were always in her thoughts.
Though the “good morning” texts may no longer arrive, the love behind each one will remain with her family forever.
