Paul Shen Chi passed away on February 6, 2026, at the age of 80. Paul was born May 6, 1945, to Jerome and Jean, who have preceded him in death. Paul’s family originated from China and came to the United States in 1962. Paul has a brother, James Chi, whose whereabouts are unknown currently. Paul began receiving services from Easterseals Arc of Northeast Indiana in 1982 after having resided at the Fort Wayne State Developmental Center for several years.
Paul will be especially remembered for his deep love of pens—hundreds of them—and for the quiet joy he found in writing. Those who knew him often picture him sitting peacefully beneath a large tulip tree, carefully and beautifully writing page after page in Mandarin. To many, it was mesmerizing to watch. His handwriting was elegant and expressive, and though not everyone could read the words, the care and pride he put into them was unmistakable. Being able to both speak and write Mandarin so fluently left a lasting impression on everyone around him.
He was known as an easygoing and kind man, gentle in spirit and warm in presence. Staff and friends remember him fondly from his time at the developmental center and later at Easterseals. He formed special bonds with many over the years.
Paul will be remembered for his kindness, his peaceful nature, his love of writing, and the quiet but meaningful impact he had on the lives of those who knew him.
