Obituary of Paul Edward St. John
Paul E. St. John, 79, of Fort Wayne, Ind., formerly of Medway, Mass., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at his home. Born Dec. 29, 1943, in Framingham, Mass., he was a son of the late Julia (Butchok) LaForce and Roy St. John. Paul attended Framingham High School prior to joining the Army National Guard where he was stationed in Fort Benning, Ga., until his honorable discharge after six years. He briefly worked for Kenmore research, and as a bus boy and bartender at Marconi's Restaurant. In 1964, he started his career at General Motors in Framingham as an assembly line worker and UAW rep, eventually taking a transfer to Fort Wayne. He retired from GM in 2004, after 40 years of service. Paul grew up around Waushakum lake, playing hockey, and over the years enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing with his buddies. He was the fun dad and grampa, full of energy. Although he called Indiana home, he never lost his avid love for the New England sports teams, especially the Patriot's. He proudly wore his collection of Super Bowl apparel. Paul spent his retirement years, enjoying the outdoors, listening to classic country, doing projects around his house, befriending neighbors, playing the lottery, and taking yearly trips visiting his family and friends. He loved talking about the old times, and was always up for a good game of Uno and badminton. Paul didn't go a day without reading his newspaper and Bible. He will be remembered for his large presence, strength, and kind heart that was generous to all. Paul was hospitalized for heart failure in January and given three days to three weeks to live. He pushed thru, went to rehab, then returned home. His kids told him many times over the years that he must have nine lives; his end of life turned into five months before having a sudden decline. Paul's faith was strong, he would say "only the good Lord knows when it's my time." The family would like to thank the team at Promedica Hospice, private care, and his dear friend, Donnie, that made it possible to be at home, as wished, for the last part of his journey. As he would often say, "Enjoy yourselves while you can" and he certainly did. Paul is survived by his loving children, David (Belinda) St. John of Charlton, Mass., Christine (Gregg) Tiemann of Woodstock, Ill., and Stacy (Jason) Murphy of Charlton, Mass.; grandchildren, Julia and Sylvia St. John, Cameron Tiemann, and Allana Murphy; four great- grandchildren; sisters, Judy (Kenny) Whyte of Milford, Mass., Jean (Tom) Bowles of East Falmouth, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joe St. John of Oklahoma; and brother in-law, Barry J. Eckler of Northborough, Mass. Services to be held at a later date in Massachusetts. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
