Penny Ann Keuneke, 72, passed away September 15, 2025, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born on May 19, 1953, in Fort Wayne, the daughter of the late Dick and Joanne Nichols.
She graduated from Central Catholic High School and earned her master’s in education from Indiana University Fort Wayne.
Penny was a teacher with Fort Wayne Community Schools and taught elementary classes for 22.5 years at Washington Center School before becoming disabled.
She was passionate about spending time with her children and extended family. She dearly loved her career as a teacher and sincerely loved her students. She was devastated when she retired due to her disability, dreaming about teaching long after her career had ended. She loved East Coast vacations with family and friends at Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, and Assateague Island.
Penny is survived by her husband, Dale E. Keuneke of Fort Wayne, IN; sons, Scott (Lisa) Keuneke, Todd Keuneke; sister, Angie Rose Nichols all of Fort Wayne, IN; grandchildren, Travis Kerr, Brittany Keuneke, Brandon Keuneke, Lauren Keuneke and Kaylee Hopper.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Jayne Marie Nichols-Hoering, and brother, Steve Richard Nichols.
Funeral service will be 5:00 PM Saturday, September 27, 2025, at D.O. McComb and Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, Fort Wayne, IN, with visitation starting at 2:00 pm. Memorials may be made to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana, Kate’s Kart, or Riley Children’s Hospital.
