Obituary of Phyllis Ann DeKoninck
Phyllis A. (Rauch) DeKoninck died August 27, 2014, at 11 p.m., with all her family at her side. She was born to Alfred and Rose Rauch in Decatur, IN. On February 15, 1927. She married Frank M. DeKoninck on June 5, 1948, he survives. In June of this year, they celebrated 66 years of marriage. She operated deKon’s Kitchen for many years, selling the business in 1976. Her specialty was homemade wedding cakes. Through this business, she touched many lives, with perhaps the most famous person being a Hall of Fame Quarterback for the Miami Dolphins. She also worked for several years at St. Joseph Hessen Cassel as the cafeteria manager, she loved making elephant ears for the students. Her grandchildren really enjoyed the elephant ear parties that she hosted, each trying to top the other in the number eaten. She also worked at Waterfield Mortgage. She loved to bake. Her kids and grandchildren say she makes the best pumpkin pie in the world. She also enjoyed sewing, ceramics, embroidery machine and crochet. She won many ribbons over the years for competition in craft shows both locally and statewide. She participated in many group trips with her husband and friends with the most memorable being to Belgium where they became acquainted with her husband’s relatives. Also surviving are her daughters, Patricia Rinehart, Lois Wolpert, Susan Klingenberger, Jeanne Diemer (M. John Diemer) Roselyn Aspy, (Gregory J. Aspy). One son Rev. Kevin DeKoninck (Dr. Beth). She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death a grandson, Drew Aspy, her parents Alfred and Rose Rauch, brothers, Homer, Charles, William, and sisters Ruth Gage and Leona Lengerich. Surviving are two brothers John and Alvin Rauch, sisters Loretta Rumschlag, and Harriet Schwaller all of Decatur, IN. The family wants to thank both Lutheran Life Villages and Heartland Hospice for the wonderful loving care given during the last year. Calling at Klaehn, Fahl, Melton Funeral Home on Winchester Road will be from 3-8 p.m. on Monday, September 1, 2014. Viewing starting at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday morning at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hessen Cassel. Service to follow at eleven o’clock.
