Phyllis was secretary to this 1st job youngster just out of college, starting a family and who had recently moved 500 miles away from 'home.'  What a kind, soft spoken, thoughtful 'friend'.  She was beyond helpful all those years at Soya. A real 'class' lady---a true friend.

I wish Bill and I could have been there for the celebration of the life of this amazing woman.  Phyllis was so talented and so funny. I will miss that sly little smile and her droll comments. 
I read the memories from other long time church members and they reminded me of how much Phyllis did and how much we benefited from her gifts

Sandy and I have known  Phyllis for many years as we were also members of Grace Episcopal Church.
Phyllis was our church secretary who also wrote articles about the lives and members at Grace, and became known as the “church mouse “. She referred to some as hero’s for what they did for others, for me , she will always be remembered as my Hero, 
Phyllis helped Sandy make curtains and valances for our present home, and now with Sandy in a nursing facility, I look at their combined talents every day, it brings back those precious memories of years ago, of a big wonderful hero in my life, Phyllis. 
Your in Gods house now probably sharing your talents with everyone there, never to be forgotten here on earth, and if we could all treat each other as Phyllis did, what a wonderful world this would be.
To her family, especially Jill and Jan, I’m so sorry for your loss, and have you all in my thoughts and prayers.
Yup have a beautiful angel watching over you now, some day she’ll welcome you Home up there some where.

I was a 25 year old recent college grad. and a new father, 500 miles away from home and family in my first job at Central Soya.  Phyllis was my Secretary in the late 1960s and early 70s and she took care of 'everything.'  A wonderful lady--never lost her composure.  

I loved “Mom” Phyllis. Met her back in the early nineties, when she was Fr Bob Fitzpatrick’s  (now Bishop) secretary.  She was a second”Mom” to me.  So supportive, understanding, loving.  A wonderful lady.
She will be missed by many. I wish I could b here for the memorial service.  I will b out of town as of Thursday 

Derrick, you forgot to mention the myriad of good works she did for church. She almost single-handedly settled a Burmese family in Fort Wayne. She not only was the first church secretary for Grace Episcopal, but she made an office in her home when we had no church building and allowed people to "invade" her space to help with different church needs all the time.  When it came time to buy a new car, (probably before she even needed one) she insisted on buyimg a van so she could transport people who needed it and taking "things" that needed to go back and forth to services when we were still without a church home base.  She was certainly very dedicated.  We had some of the best times in different groups she hosted at her home, even letting people mess up her kitchen to serve pancakes for breakfast!  :). 

And what a natural talent for sewing, knitting, and crocheting!  There was not much she couldn't make. And I mean even recovering her furniture and teaching other do to the same.  She made works of art. 

Yes, Phyllis was an intelligent woman and had a mind for continuous learning. Did not matter what the subject. She just wanted to know more so she could pass it on.   

She grew up at a time life was not the best for her, but she carried on and made her life count. People like her are few and far between. Whoever has had the privilege of knowing her has certainly come away being better a person by being in her presence. I hope she was greeted by all her precious animals she loved so dearly and the many family and friends before her.  May she now RIP and once again have her brilliant mind.  

 My grandma Phyllis left this place tuesday, the 23rd of July. She definitely left it way better than it was when she got here on May 1st, 1926. Wade Holman and Naomi D. Jackman had no idea of the contribution they made to all of your lives. She graduated from Northside, married my grandpa Merle in 1947. Birthed several difficult children, retired from Central Soya then at the age of 60 got an Associates Degree at Indiana University, furthered her studies at the University at Dijon in France... and somehow was the first church secretary for Grace Episcopal Church..feel lazy yet?  She returned several times to France taking family members. She survived the Great Depression, polyester fashion, both Bush administrations and her psychotic grandchildren.
Her babies: Jim, Jill, and Jan. Her sister Sharon, her 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and most of the people that knew her, have been blessed by one of the most graceful examples of life that ever was.
She outlived us all.
