Born in Fort Wayne, he was a son to the late Vernier and Gladys Carmer. He served his country during World War II in the Army and was a member of American Legion 449, Elks, and he has been a Mason for over 60 years.
He graduated from Purdue with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. He was a member of the John Purdue Club. Dick retired from Essex Wire after many years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jane; sons Mike (Rose) Carmer and James (Jessica Lockfeld) Carmer; and four grandchildren, Hailey, Amanda, Andrew and Jillian.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Jennings.
Funeral Service is 11 a.m., Monday, December 4, 2017 at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling is also 2-6 p.m., Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Preferred memorials are to Purdue University.
