Obituary of Richard George Robert  Harris
Richard George Robert Harris, Sr., born on November 12, 1938 in Elkhart, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on February 12, 2023 at the age of 84. At nine years old, he attended his first White Sox game at Comiskey Park with his father and became a devoted and lifelong Sox fan. Richard graduated from Central High School in 1956, where he excelled as a varsity football and baseball player. After graduation, he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and then proudly served in the United States Army. Upon Richard’s return to Fort Wayne, he became co-owner of the McKinnie Tap until 1983. After leaving the restaurant industry, Richard was employed by and eventually retired from the United States Postal Service in 2005. Richard is preceded in death by his father, Robert Harris. He is survived by his three children, Kelly Harris; Richard Harris; and Corey Laffkas (Derek). He is also survived by four cherished grandchildren: Cameron, Harper, Park, and Addison. Survivors also include Loretta Harris and many beloved nieces and nephews. Visitation to be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home on February 28, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Memorial service will be held on March 1, 2023 at 3 p.m. with a calling one hour prior. For those unable to attend the service in person, a live stream will be held on the Funeral Home’s Facebook Page. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to be made in Richard’s name to the The Challenger League c/o Gary Gable, 2506 Oakridge Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46805 or the Chicago White Sox, as Richard always thought they could use all the help they could get.
