He is survived by his 5 children, Vickie Lynn McHenry, Christine Ann Volkert, Richard Ray McHenry Jr, (Deb), Jamie Lee Bischoff (Brandon), Larry David McHenry (Linda); 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; 3 great- great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In his final days he enjoyed being pampered by his granddaughters, Kristina and Alyssa. Richard was an Army veteran. He was self-employed as an owner operator of an excavating and landscaping company until his retirement at the age of 70.
Dick enjoyed spending time at the family owned campground on Lake Gage, with family and friends, where he shared many stories of his past around a campfire.
He was passionate about flying, air shows and loved his Piper Cub plane. He enjoyed Westerns, tinkering in the pole barn and relaxing on his front porch.
Dick was a strong, kind and loving father. His knowledge and guidance was the foundation of his family.
A visitation for Dick will be held Tuesday, January 16, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Pine Valley, 1320 E. Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46825, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. Burial will take place at Highland Park Cemetery.
