Richard (Dick) William Petersen passed away on July 14, 2024, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, at the age of 86. He was born on January 22, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois. Dick was a beloved husband, dad, brother, uncle, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Dick graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and later obtained a Masters in EE from Purdue University. He worked most of his career and retired from Magnavox in Fort Wayne. He often worked on government contracts with submarines.
In his free time Dick enjoyed traveling the world, delving into books as an avid reader, and engaging in competitive bridge games earning the rank of Life Master. After retiring, Dick spent time learning to fly and was able to share this experience with his children. Dick was a member of Club Oasis (AA) in Fort Wayne, where he served as a board member and sponsored several individuals. He was a congregant of Maplewood Mennonite Church.
Dick is survived by his children, Lisa (Jeff) Tolliver, Sherrie (Jay) Konkle, Rick Petersen, Deb (Kevin) Dooley, as well as his 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 stepdaughters, Diane Campbell and Linda Chaney; 7 step grandchildren; and 14 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife LaVerne Petersen, his first wife Sharon Hardy, and his brother Don Petersen.
Dick will be dearly missed by all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished by his family and friends.
Funeral Service is 1:30 pm, Friday, July 19, 2024 at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Maplewood Park, 4017 Maplecrest Rd, Fort Wayne with calling one and a half hours prior. Friends and family will be received from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Thursday, July 18, 2024 at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Maplewood Park, 4017 Maplecrest Rd, Fort Wayne.
