Rick Alan Dunton, age 59, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022, surrounded by loved ones due to complications from a previous surgery. He was born December 31, 1962, the son of the late Clayton and Sharon Dunton, and is a graduate of Carroll High School.
Rick was a loving Father, Brother, Son, Grandfather and Friend who loved all things—muscle cars, motor cycles, and speedboats—had a true need for speed, to say the least. Rick was once 5th in the nation for drag bike racing, known as a true “badass” to the ones who knew him best. He had endless stories, he loved telling the one where he hid his broken leg and still pulled off winning the race.
Rick was a professional air guitar player and lover of rock and roll music. He was hard working and brave also silly and charismatic. We sure would all agree that his smile and his laugh were contagious. He was mischievous in his younger days, always and forever a real ladies man, and he knew how to pull a great prank and get away with things most couldn’t.
He played football, hockey and wrestled, even being one of the smallest on the team, he was one of the toughest. He was confident in the fact that he could beat anyone in arm wrestling, or any fight, for that matter. He overcame many demons in his short time on this earth and never gave up fighting, even until his last breaths.
Rick loved a good cheeseburger (just like his mom), Lexi's pizza, and would never turn down a beef and cheddar from Arby's. In his free time he enjoyed spending time with his dog Charlie, taking rides in his souped up Dodge Challenger, and watching NCIS marathons. On sundays you could catch him watching the 49ers game, always was their biggest fan.
In his last days, Rick would pray on his knees by his bedside at night, we know that God knew his heart. We would like to imagine he is going down the heavenly freeway at top speed right now, with the biggest smile on his face.
Rick's presence will be very missed by his children and all of his loved ones. He was truly one of a kind. We would say he tried his best to live by the serenity prayer: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
He may be gone from this earth, but know he will live on in our hearts and memories forever.
Rick is survived by his children, Cassie (Matt) Streicher, Erika (Zach) Leichty, and Nicholas Yoder, all of Fort Wayne, IN; brother, Russ (Laura) Dunton of Albion, IN; sister, Suzy (Jonathan) Weibel of State College, PA; grandchildren, Haiden, Izabella, Sawyer, and his dog Charlie.
A funeral service to honor Rick's life will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, with visitation one hour prior. A visitation will also be held from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, June 20, 2022, at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Huntertown Cemetery, Huntertown, Indiana.
