Robert Gene Griffin, born on July 24, 1935, in Union City, Tennessee, the son of the late Odie and Mary Alice Griffin, passed away on October 16, 2025, at the age of 90. He was a longtime resident of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
His family moved to Fort Wayne in 1953, and Robert graduated from North Side High School in 1955. He earned his associate’s in accounting from Indiana Business College in 1957.
Robert married Marilyn Hobson in 1957 and they raised two children.
Robert dedicated over 40 years of his life to his career as an account supervisor, with Indiana Michigan Electric, now known as American Electric Power. This was his only job throughout his lifetime, showcasing his commitment and loyalty to his profession.
In his personal life, Robert was an avid fisherman and cherished his annual trips to Canada with his four fishing buddies for over 25 years and continue for several more years, with his son-in- law, grandchildren and friends. He was also a true sports fan, with a particular passion for watching all sports on TV, especially the Notre Dame games and his beloved Los Angeles Dodgers.
Robert's legacy of kindness and generosity will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his son Joseph G. Griffin of Chicago. IL; his daughter, Laura (Ronald) Vernasco of Granger, IN; his grandchildren, Lauren (Pat Brown) Griffin, Ross (Cara) Griffin. Dominic (Nick Luce) Vernasco, Anthony (Athenie Shi) Vernasco.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife 57 years, Marilyn Griffin, in 2009.
Funeral service for Robert will be held at 1:00 pm. Tuesday October 21, 2025, at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804. Committal and Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Fort Wayne, IN. Memorials may be made to Parkview Hospice or Humane Fort Wayne.
