Robert Larry Jones

Robert Larry Jones, age 94, of Decatur, Indiana passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur, IN. Robert was born in Birmingham, Alabama on July 8, 1930. He graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1949. He continued his education, receiving a BS from Auburn University in 1955, but not before serving two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as an MP.

He married Mary Lou Harris in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1955. They lived in Birmingham until 1959. He gained employment with Essex Wire Corporation and transferred his family to Marion, Indiana then on to Fort Wayne where he continued his employment for 39 years. After retirement and for 21 years, they spent their winters in South Pasadena, Florida. Robert and his wife, Mary Lou, volunteered at several organizations. He enjoyed golfing, baseball spring training, computer graphics, and his favorite, time with his family.

He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Jones of Decatur and Robyn Hall (Robert) of Granger, Indiana; six grandchildren, Melissa Cosich (Brett) of Frankfort, Illinois; Mandalynn Tardi (Michael) of South Bend; Robert Hall of Warsaw; Tyler Stoppenhagen of North Manchester; Drew Stoppenhagen of Decatur; and Lyndsey Caird (Kyle) of Bloomington, Indiana. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren; McKennzie, Kiya, Max, Teagen, Jack, Charlie, Camden, Robby, Beau, Ellie, Boone, Tanner, Quinn, and Killian.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Lou; his parents, Ross S. Jones and Lucille (Barrett) Jones from Birmingham; two brothers, Dr. Earl Monroe from Birmingham; and Ross S. Jones Jr. from Harriman, Tennessee

Robert was a member of Aldersgate UMC for 57 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 499 of Fort Wayne.

Celebration of Life is noon, Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 2417 Getz Road, Fort Wayne with calling one hour prior. Preferred Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
