Mary, Tim, Teresa and Tonya… I am very sorry for your loss. Sorry I was unable to be there in person during your time of need.  
 Bob was a Great Man. Funny , kind, caring…the list goes on. Your house being the “hang out spot” during and after high school. I have a lot of great memories of Bob that will stay with me forever. Again I am very sorry for your families loss. 

Ok… So here’s the deal. When I graduated high school I moved to Ft. Wayne to attend college. The only person I knew in this big new town was my cousin Tim Bowers. He hung out at the Kahn household. So I went with him knowing nobody else. He introduced me Bob and the Kahn family and it wasn’t long until they all adopted me. So many fond memories. It was there that I met my wife Emily and my best friend…. Tim Kahn. I can tell you with absolute honesty these were some of the best times of my life. They all opened up to me and it was so awesome to know I had a family away from home. Bob was a father to me when he needed to be and a best buddy the rest of the time. The thing I remember most about Bob is his laugh. He would laugh all the time and I always loved that. Even when he was angry he would laugh. Not the same laugh but a laugh nonetheless. Believe me when I say the world lost a great Great man. And Heaven gained someone who will be greatly missed. I will never forget you Bob Bitchin. We will meet again some day. Love you and the family still here on this earth. 

My childhood memories with grandpa are countless and treasured. He's always been the life of the party, the leader of the laughter, and both the dealer and butt of most jokes. His smile would light you up. His laugh would scare the daylights out of you if you weren't ready. But my favorite memories will be the way he'd gather all of his energy to put on that same excited show every time my kids were around him no matter how tired he felt. All the same tales we'd hear growing up were passed down to them-the watermelon growing in his tummy, the super glued toes, the stealing of noses, all of the great grandpa shenanigans a kid could hope to experience. He made everyone feel like they were his favorite, and I adored that about him. He's the best grandpa and the greatest great grandpa. 

I love you more.... 

I will always remember him playing with us, especially in the pool. I love those memories. He'd play Elvis real loud in the garage, Grandma would be slathering us in sunscreen and putting our floaties and life vests on. He would do cannonballs with us and toss us across the pool. He'd always pump up a flotie we wanted and help us carry it.

"Don't drink the water! You're supposed to swim in it!!"

Grandpa was always there for a good time! There are so many good memories to share from growing up!  Pool days, croquet, a good game of PIG or Hippopotamus (if we didn't win pig) 🤣 
 But, the ones I remember most- playing cards with the family. Grandpa was such a stinker! Always talking smack and egging us on. I always thought "Good try Grandpa but I'm going to win this game!" (I always figured it was his tell for having a bad hand 😄) He taught me a few things with that: 1. How to talk big game 2. How to actually be good at the game and 3. How to be a good sport... His laugh, I'll forever remember booming over family get togethers. It made home easy to find especially at the Kahn reunions! Its impossible not to smile just thinking about it. Love you Grandpa!

One memory that comes to mind is when the kids and I went to visit mom & dad when they were fairly young.  I went in to talk to mom and grandpa and the kids stayed out in the backyard. After a while the kids came in smiling (mischievously). I asked what they were doing out there? They said grandpa taught them a new game called "knives". I said "knives"?  They said yes, it was really fun.  He said you can use anything sharp like knives, screwdrivers, house knives, knives to fellet fish, pocket knives anything sharp like that. Everyone picks a spot in the yard. The object is to throw the knife close to the person and not hit them but get it just out of reach. It has to stick in the ground though. If they can reach it they are still in. If they can't reach it they are out.  😳  So, happy to say there was no blood on anyone. We did have a little talk about NOT PLAYING THAT GAME EVER AGAIN.  Dad just rolled his eyes.  Pretty sure if we were there and I wasn't watching it was "game on!".

I always remember visiting Grandpa and he would always joke about how he didn't like his dog or later his cat or how "they didn't like him that much" but a few minutes after he would always have a dog or cat sleeping on his lap. He loved acting like a grouch sometimes, but he was always a soft loving person at heart.

One of my favorite memories of my dad is when he came out to help me with my home addition.  He came out early and I told him I had a groundhog that had gotten into the small lean-to portion of my barn that has a dirt floor.  It was a huge hole with a shallow run that continued under the small johnboat and trailer stored there.  We pulled the old johnboat out and devised a plan to chase the groundhog out.  I placed dad right beside the huge hole with a pitchfork, ha.  I then went back along the shallow run and began plunging a fence post into the run to chase it out.  I stabbed the fence post into the ground at the farthest end of the run then pulled it out, and continued along the run towards the hole.  After about the 6th time, there was a loud squeak.  Out of the hole (where dad was standing with the pitchfork) came not a groundhog but a very, not-so-happy skunk-- running right for Dad!  He threw the pitchfork down and ran to the house faster than I have ever seen him move with the skunk chasing him.  We laughed about that for many years.

My personal favorite Bob Kahn memory is from my wedding day.  A group of us were decorating the hall that morning, and I was getting pretty stressed from having to make so many decisions.  When he came up to me to ask me where I wanted him to put all the balloons,  I must have had some sort of "deer in the headlights" expression on my face, because when he looked at me-- he said, "I'll figure it out."  And he did.  He was my hero that day.

Thanks for being my godfather, Uncle Bob.

Jack and I are sending our condolences at losing Bob.  We have fond memories of Tim and Teresa when they would visit us at the farm.  We remember Bob's sense of humor at the Troy Community Center when you were celebrating an anniversary and Tim's birthday.  We really enjoyed it.  All of your family are in our thoughts and prayers. I remember back when we would play Euchre at all of our family gatherings. For some reason, no one ever wanted to be your partner. Maybe it was your loud, aggressively competitive way of playing the game. Whenever anyone would do something that you disapproved of, you’d make a huge scene, trying to make them feel dumb, for whatever it was that they did. When you got really upset, you’d sometimes shout a few words or a sentence in German just to mess with us, I think. Everyone else might have been put off by it, but I loved it. You were my first pick every time. It worked out especially well when we would win, because I had you there to rub it in their faces. Even when we lost, and I was the recipient of your scolding, I still enjoyed it. I thought you were hilarious, and I knew that you had a good time as well.

Lots of great memories from ping pong in Grandpa Rollins' cellar as a kid with all the grown-ups, to competitive croquet games in the yard on rare visits to Indiana from Ohio.  Uncle Bob was always fun to be around as a kid, and as I grew up he was a very interesting guy that I enjoyed talking with. My wife Donna and I enjoyed visiting at Jellystone with the family and entertaining them with her southern drawl. Uncle Bob was the type of person who immediately put folks at ease with his big personality and wonderful smile. He made them feel as if they'd always known him. I wish we'd had more opportunities to see him. I enjoyed greatly and will never forget all the good times visiting family in Indiana and Uncle Bob. His passing will surely leave a void in this world, and he will be greatly missed.

Have known Bob and family since they moved next door at Jellystone.  Bob had a booming infectious laugh to be heard all over.  He enjoyed a good joke, even if it was at his own expense.   One that I would never allow him to forget was the time he came into my yard with a bottle of weed and grass killer as an A-10 flew over us causing us to spin around, looking upward, and watching as the pilot maneuvered above us.  I looked down to Bob whose sprayer in hand was throwing a line of weed killer all around him.  I said, Bob I do hope that is not weed and grass killer!  Of course it was, and it took me a year to repair my damaged yard.  From then on he was banned from coming over with any spray bottle of any kind ever again.  I am going to remind him of this the next time I see him.  Bob was a good neighbor and friend.  He had his faults as we all do, but it is comforting to know God makes no mistakes as He receives Bob into his forever home.  Richard and Penny Steinhilber from Jellystone campground.


Mary Ellen, Tim, Teresa, and Tonya, I am so sorry to hear about Bob.  I have two memories.  The first one being when Tim and Teresa spent a few days at the farm.  The night that Mary Ellen and Bob came to pick them up we were all standing outside and all of the sudden Bob let our this very loud yell.  Scared us all to death.  We all turned to him to see what that was all about.  He said it was just way too quiet in the country.  We all laughed at that.  The second memory is when they then returned the favor and let this country girl come to "The Big City" to spend a few days.  The whole family was so nice to me.  The memories are what we will need to hold on to at this time.  Please know you are all in my thoughts.

I'm sorry I'll miss Bob's celebration of life.  Mom's side didn't get together to often but I remember all those times fondly when we would gather at Aunt Mary & Spud's or Annie & Heber's house for a summer picnic.  Your Dad's laugh rings true to me yet today.  He was always smiling & his laugh.  Prayers for your family and I wish I could see all of you to hug you in person.  I'm leaving tonight for Fl for a week.  Know that I'll be thinking of all of you on the 12th.
