Raised in Fort Wayne, Robert graduated from Central High School in 1966. After high school, Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969 during the Vietnam War. He carried that commitment beyond his years in uniform, continuing to stand with fellow veterans throughout his life as a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), National Dusters, Quads & Searchlights Association (NDQSA), and American Legion Post 241 in Waynedale.
Following his military service, Robert built a long working life in the electrical industry in Fort Wayne. He held many roles in the field and notably retired from REMC as an Electrical Inspector in 2010.
On June 13, 1970, Robert married the love of his life, Diana L. Siebold. Together they built a home grounded in loyalty and care, and he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Diana cherishes the memories of sitting on their porch every morning drinking coffee and birdwatching together, as well as loving on their two furbabies, Marley and Stella.
Robert was an avid Harley Davidson motorcycle rider, and his family will always cherish memories of long motorcycle trips, RV vacations, and snowbirding to warmer states in the winter—times that reflected his appreciation for the open road, shared adventure, and the simple joy of being together.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Diana L. Moilanen; his children, Steven (Yolanda) Moilanen and Tina Moilanen; his grandchildren, Leif Moilanen and Finn Moilanen; his sisters, Carol Mumma and Cindy McFadden; his brother-in-law, Bob Stanton; and many nieces and nephews.
