

ROBERT "BOB" L. NICHOLS SR., 85, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016. Born in DeKalb County, he was a son of the late Ira and Mildred Nichols. Robert was a Korean War Air Force veteran. He was the owner and operator of Advance Sewer Services for 53 years, retiring in 2015. He was a member of the American Legion Post 82, Summit City Lodge 170, F.&A.M. Scottish Rite, Shriner and part of the Mizpah Horse Patrol. Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, and horses. Surviving are his wife, Carroll Nichols of Fort Wayne; daughters, Cynthia Nichols of Fort Wayne, Gail (Brian) Vedder of Columbia City and Robin (James) Garrison of Fort Wayne; son, Robert Nichols Jr. of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Nicholas Goldsberry, Dr. Melissa (Jeremy) Rice, Justin (Rachel) Vedder, Jessica (Caleb) Sheckler, Jared (Jacquelin McCoy) Vedder, Kyle and Austin Garrison; and great-grandchildren, Jude Vedder, and J. Cora Vedder. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Tom, Ivan and Ira Nichols; and Beverly Buckmaster. Service is 11 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2016, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., with calling one hour prior. Chaplain Kurt Snyder officiating. Calling also from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2016, at the funeral home, with a masonic service at 5:30 p.m. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or Parkview Home, Health & Hospice.
