Ruby Lucille Shinabery

Ruby Lucille Shinabery, a fearless woman, dedicated business owner, and devoted matriarch, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at Adams Heritage nursing home. She was 94 years old.

She was born on New Year’s Eve in 1931 in Pickens County, South Carolina, the daughter of Richard R. and Annie B. Porter.

Ruby possessed a vibrant, courageous spirit that defined her entire life. Alongside her beloved husband, Budd, she was a driven entrepreneur, co-owning and operating L.B. Shinabery and Associates, Shinabery Hall and Shinabery Auctioneers. In addition to her sharp mind for business, Ruby was a gifted artisan who found great joy in cake decorating, sharing her talents to make local celebrations beautiful and sweet. She also shared her creativity through her skilled work as a seamstress.

Above all, Ruby was a woman of profound strength who gave of herself tirelessly. She was a fierce protector and caregiver for her family, dedicating her time and heart unconditionally to her mother-in-law, Ida Cox and to her husband, Budd.

Her legacy of resilience, hard work, and unconditional love lives on through her family.

She is survived by her three children, Larry (Lynne) Shinabery, Steve (Paula) Shinabery, Sharon (Scott) Dyben, Ruby was also the proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her later years. Ruby is also survived by her sister, Virginia Haney.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Lawrence Budd Shinabery, June 23, 2016, daughter in law, Lynne Shinabery, 5 brothers and 4 sisters and a great grandson, Devin Walker

Funeral service will be 1:30 pm Friday May 29, 2026, at D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home 1140 Lake Ave. Fort Wayne, IN with visitation one hour prior.

Visitation also from 4-8 pm Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the funeral home. Committal and burial at Highland Park Cemetery.
