Sandra Sue Bendezu, née Musser, was born June 1, 1938, in Auburn, Indiana, to Ralph and Ruth Musser. She was the oldest of four children: Kent Musser, William Musser and Beth Musser. Sandra was also the mother of two sons, Luis Edmundo Bendezu and Christopher Cauley. Her parents, siblings and sons all preceded her in death.
She graduated from Indiana University with a double major in special education and foreign languages and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa in recognition of her academic achievement. Sandra studied several languages, including Chinese, though Russian was her favorite.
Sandra devoted her career to teaching special education in Angola, Indiana. After retiring, she returned to Auburn, where she spent much of the remainder of her life.
Sandra loved cooking and was constantly trying new recipes. She also enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, reading and poetry, especially haiku, and loved animals. Highly intelligent and thoughtful, with a remarkable memory, Sandra was independent and reserved. She was comfortable with a quiet life and never called attention to her own accomplishments.
Sandra spent her final years at Northern Lakes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Angola, where she received compassionate, personal care and support. Her family is also grateful to the Paradym Hospice team for its care during this time.
A private viewing was held to say a final goodbye. She will be sorely missed.
