

Sarah M. (Sally) Pappas peacefully passed away at her home on April 20, 2013. Born in Scotland on November 22, 1918, she emigrated to New York at the age of four. The Bronx was her true home, where she met and married Verne V. (Sonny) Pappas in 1938. Life’s journey took her to Merrick, NY, Hadley, NY, Virginia Beach, VA, and Buford, GA, before moving to the Golden Years Homestead in Fort Wayne. Sally’s greatest joy in life was her family. Her hobbies included singing, dancing, and crocheting. She leaves her surviving children Robert (Dorothy) of Wilson, NC, Rosemary of Bluffton, SC, William (Shirley) of Winder, GA, Daniel (Laura) of Fort Wayne, IN, and Philip of Peyton, CO, twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and more than thirty foster children, including Maureen Powers of New Jersey. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Courtenay, and brother, Peter (Corrine) O’Donnell. She was preceded in death by her beloved Sonny, children Richard Pappas and Patricia McKenzie, son-in-law Joseph McKenzie, daughter-in-law Florence Pappas, grandchildren Paul Welk and Dawn Marie Hawthorne, and niece Mary Fedler.

Visitation is from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, with a prayer service at 2:30 p.m., at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton, 420 West Wayne Street, Fort Wayne. A celebration of her life will be held that evening beginning at 5 p.m. at the Arlington Park Clubhouse. Klaehnfahlmelton.com
