Sharon Ann (Bass) Staak, 78, peacefully entered into the arms of Jesus on Monday, May 20, 2024 in Los Angeles in the presence of her loving family. She had bravely and graciously battled for decades with the effects of radiation and bronchiectasis. Sharon was the widow of the late Thomas Staak, and daughter of the late Norbert and Louise Bass.
Sharon graduated from South Side High School and later earned her teaching degree at IPFW. She was a devoted and much-loved teacher at Bunche Elementary and Bunche Montessori schools. She relished being a grandma and brought her creativity and Montessori experiences to that role as well. Sharon was an avid IU basketball and professional tennis fan who also enjoyed coffee, knitting, painting and playing Mahjong with her friends. Even with eleven years of a feeding tube, Sharon delighted in cooking meals for her family. Described by many as the strongest woman they knew, she was also the most kind, thoughtful, humble and generous.
Sharon is survived by her daughter Allison (Dave) Dettore of Culver City, California and granddaughters Montana (18) and Hope (11).
A memorial service honoring Sharon will be held on June 1st, 2024 at D.O. McCombs, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Calling will start at 2pm with the service at 3pm. Preferred memorials are to be made to The OLEY Foundation whose mission is to enrich the lives of those living with home IV nutrition or tube feeding through advocacy, education, community and innovation.
