

Shirley Jean Horton, 93 of Fort Wayne, Indiana died peacefully on July 5, 2026 at Lincolnshire Place Memory Care Center.
Shirley was born in 1933 to T.E. “Ed” and Bernice (Bair) Horton, the third of four children. She was predeceased by her parents, older sister Carolyn, and older brother David, and nephew Thomas Steinbauer. She is survived by her younger brother Stephen (Gina) of Naples, Florida, four nieces: Linda Gilbert of Muskegon, MI, Lisa Kohl of Grand Rapids, MI, Lauralyn Riggins of Bloomington, IN, Beth Klingensmith of Colorado Springs, CO, and two nephews: Mark Horton of Washington, DC and Matthew Horton of Indianapolis, IN. She is also survived by many dear friends.
Shirley lived in Fort Wayne her entire life, graduated from North Side High School in 1951, attended business college, and worked as Office Administrator at the E.B. Bingham Home Office of the Lincoln Life Insurance Company for 25 years, retiring in 1982. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Fort Wayne and attended First Wayne Street United Methodist Church in her later years.
Shirley filled her life with traveling, hobbies, knitting, sewing, doll collecting and building miniature houses and was featured in an article in the local newspaper regarding a doll house she built and displayed. She loved Don Hall restaurants and most visits to Fort Wayne by her family usually included a stop at DeBrands for chocolate treats.
