Stephen "Steve" Allen Harris

Stephen Allen “Steve” Harris, 78, long-time resident of Fort Wayne, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018. Born March 26, 1940 in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late John and Mary Elizabeth (Estes) Harris. Steve was a United States Marine Corps veteran and a retired Indiana State Police Officer of 34 years. Steve was a true fan of the Old West and was an avid reader of western novels. He never met a stranger and was always a true friend. He loved to play euchre and poker with his good friends and family. Steve is survived by his wife Diana “Di” Harris; two sons, Scott (Erin) Harris, Gregg (Martha) Harris; step son, Christopher Smith; grandchildren, Anwen, Zane, and Amelia Harris, Gwendolyn and Luke Harris; brothers and sisters, Mike (Betsy) Harris, John (Betty) Harris, Phil (Monica) Harris, Candy (Robert) Bohlender, Thomas (Barbara) Harris, Timothy (Joanna) Harris, and Julie McCammon; sister-in-law, Sharon Harris; step-daughter, Stephanie Owens; step-grandchildren, Joel, Jessica, Jazmyn, Carrie, and Tiffany; he also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom he cherished. Grandchildren Anwen, Zane, Gwen, Luke, and Amelia were his pride and joy. He was preceded in death by Suzanne Harris, Charlotte Harris; his brothers, Dr. James Harris, and David Harris; step-children, Stacy Hessman and Shawn McCammon. A celebration of life will be held at 1:30pm on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at American Legion Post 47, 601 Reed Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46815. A gathering of friends and family to immediately follow at the American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in care of Diana Harris. Arrangements by D.O.
