Steven E. Modezjewski, 79, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 30, 2026 surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on October 23, 1946, the son of the late Stephen A. and Ruth D. (Stephans) Modezjewski, Steve graduated from South Side High School with the Class of ‘65. He served his country with honor in the US Army during the Vietnam War and on December 13, 1969, Steve married the love of his life, Marsha (Durnell), who survives along with his children, Teresa (Scott) Adam and Travis (Amanda) Modezjewski; his grandchildren, Mara Hendrix (TJ Bohanon), Briana (Brandon) Goepfrich, Alyson Modezjewski, Daniel Adam, Marissa (Colin) Snyder, and Madison (Tyler) Underwood; his great-grandchildren, Sadie, Maizey, Scarlette, and three step great-grandchildren.
As a journeyman machinist by trade, Steve loved turning wrenches on cars and being outdoors in any capacity. He enjoyed watching all sports, with a fondness for NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt, the Chicago Bears and all levels of football. He was also a huge fan of college basketball and March Madness. Over the years, he spent his free time racing RC cars with his son, building model cars, tending to his garden, tinkering in the garage, and training his multiple dogs. He was involved in the community as a Mizpah Shriner and enjoyed attending canine conferences, car shows, and parades with his daughter and son-In-law. By far, his greatest joy was his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He cherished regular Sunday family dinners and the time spent together making memories. Nothing beat hanging out with the entire family on a warm summer day under the maple tree, with all the grills fired up, and a cold beer in hand.
A proud veteran, Steve was grateful to have the opportunity to participate in the Honor Flight Northeast Indiana Flight 46 and was a strong supporter of the Veterans National Memorial Shrine & Museum in Fort Wayne. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
