Born on May 22, 1962, in Fort Wayne, Steve grew up in Waynedale and graduated from Wayne High School in 1980. While attending Ball State University, he worked for one of his favorite employers, Montgomery Ward. He went on to successfully establish and run his own professional carpet cleaning franchise for more than two decades.
Steve had a deep appreciation for cars and motorcycles and found joy in all things mechanical. He also loved riding ATVs, snowmobiles, and speeding across the water in his boat---pastimes made all the more enjoyable during the years he lived near the lakes of Huntington County. Known for his sharp wit and keen mind, Steve could fix nearly anything he set his hands on. He shared an especially close bond with his father, Ralph, and cared for him with unwavering devotion in his final years.
Steve is survived by his sisters, Sue Ann Simpson (Chuck) and Sharon Cordova (Jim); nieces, Leslie (Gorka Galdos) Nichols, Amy Cordova; nephews Curtis (Manaho) Takaichi, Anthony (Macy) Nichols, Jesse Nichols, Eric Nichols, Justin Cordova; great nieces, Uxue, Alaia, Oihane, and Ava Nichols.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Claire Nichols; his parents, Ralph and Jackie Nichols; his sister, Debi Nichols and brother, Larry Alan Nichols.
His family and friends take comfort in knowing that Steve is now reunited with loved ones in Heaven.
