Susan Maria Knake

Susan Maria Knake, 86, passed away November 3, 2023 at Coventry Meadows of Fort Wayne, IN. She was born April 24, 1937 in Hillsdale, MI, the daughter of Glen and Eva (Kingsberry) Stanley. Susan graduated from Pittsford High School, Pittsford, MI, and International Business College in Fort Wayne Indiana. She worked as a Human Resource Administrator at ITT for 15 years retiring in 1987 only to open her own business (Village Café and Yogurt Shoppe) a few years later. Susan was an avid horseback rider, owning many horses over her lifetime, and competing in horseshows. Her and Lee (her late husband) loved to sail on their sailboat down in the Caribbean. She loved to scuba dive, snow ski, and play Bunco with her best girlfriends. Susan was a devoted member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and volunteered with the Martha’s Circle, funeral, and wedding committee. But one of Susan’s biggest accomplishments was being a mother and a grandmother. She adored her family and loved spending time with her grandkids. She is survived by her children, Catherine D. Freeland of Fort Wayne, IN; Gary J. (Betsy) Shull of Sanbornton, NH; Scott (Paula) Knake Naples, FL; Doug (Diane) Knake of FL; Michael (Sherry) Knake Whitehouse, TN; Kimberly (Jeff) Sumwalt of Fort Wayne, IN; 9 grandchildren, Natalee (Connor), Austin (Ali), Meghann (Philip), Erinne, Alicia, Nicole and Dustin, 13 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. Memorial service will be at 2:00 Friday November 10, 2023 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 2417 Getz Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday November 9, 2023 at D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road.
