Obituary of Thomas J. Feely
Thomas J. Feely, 85, of Fort Wayne, IN, completed the journey of a lifetime on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, surrounded by love. Born in Detroit, MI, he was the son of Emmett and Myra Feely who not only gave him the gift of life, but also a deep faith and an enduring sense of humor. He was a lifelong Tigers fan. He was a proud graduate of John Carroll University, Class of 1957. Upon graduation Tom joined the U.S. Army. After his service, Tom had a long and distinguished career with Weatherhead Corp. which was acquired by Dana Corp. where Tom ultimately rose to the ranks of the V.P. of Marketing. Upon retirement Tom and his wife Sally took up residence at Pt. Nipigon in Cheboygan, MI. He was preceded in death by his wife Sally in 2010. Tom loved to golf, ski, boat and sail. He crewed several Detroit to Mackinac races. After moving to Fort Wayne he was active with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. As his final hour approached he was serenaded by a remarkable singer who sang Frank Sinatra’s “The Best is Yet to Come”. We could only imagine what wonderful reunions await him as we heard, “You think you've flown before, but baby, you ain't left the ground, Wait till you're locked in my embrace, Wait till I draw you near, Wait till you see that sunshine place, Ain't nothin' like it here." Nicknamed by his friends as “the bald eagle” we hope that he can now soar in eternity where his faith has become vision. He is survived by his five children: two daughters, Mary Carol (Jim) Sowar of Cincinnati, OH and Sr. Katherine Feely, SND of Cleveland, OH; three sons, Tom (Audrey) Feely Jr. of Media, PA., Mike (Marlene) Feely and Pat (Michelle) Feely, both of Fort Wayne, IN; nine grandchildren, Jay (Ellie), Molly, Christine, T.J., Keenan, Morgan, Makenna, Ryan, and Lauren; a sister Kathleen Miller of Greensburg, PA; a brother Emmett Feely of Birmingham, MI; and his much loved nieces and nephews. Memorial mass will be on Monday, February 10, 2020 at 10:30 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church (1502 E Wallen Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46825) with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Huntertown Volunteer Fire Department 15412 Lima Road Huntertown, IN 46748 or the Sisters of Notre Dame, 13000 Auburn Road Chardon, OH.
