Obituary of Thomas J. Junk
Thomas J. Junk, 77, passed away July 5, 2024, at Stillwater Hospice in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born September 20, 1946, in Fort Wayne, IN, to the late Edward A. and Maryellen A. Junk. Tom graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1964. He worked at Montgomery Ward for 19.5 years and Parkview Hospital for 19 years before retiring in 2004. But Tom wasn’t one to just sit around. Retirement only meant more time for his hobbies and his family. He loved to play golf and was an avid craftsman and woodworker. Over the years, he made more than one violin, a spinning wheel, a marimba, countless storage boxes, jewelry boxes, wooden trains, domino sets and more. He and his “twin” cousin Janet could be found playing Scrabble several times a week, jockeying back and forth for the winners spot and seeing who could get the highest scoring word each time. Tom was also known as the family genealogist. He revived the Junk family newsletter, The Junk Breeze, for a new generation and worked with his cousin Emelia Ann to preserve the original letters into several bound volumes for each Junk family member. He is survived by his siblings, James E. Junk, Michael J. (Tina) Junk, Susan E. Harding, Stephen A. (Sue) Junk, all of Fort Wayne, IN; Rose I. (Joe) Weber of Columbia City, IN; Kathleen L. Junk of Indianapolis, IN; Richard L. (Diana) Junk of Coesse, IN; and a host of nieces and nephews. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Sister Amy Marie Junk CPPS, Larry P. Junk and Robert F. Junk. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Friday, July 12, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 12305 Arcola Road, Fort Wayne, IN, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. and a Rosary at 3:30 p.m. at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN. Burial immediately following at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Arcola, IN. Memorials may be made to Stillwater Hospice.
