Obituary of Vernon Dwain Burkett
Vernon Dwain Burkett, 90, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at Lutheran Life Villages of Pine Valley in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born October 12, 1931 in New Haven, Indiana, the son of the late Leo and Dottie Burkett. Vernon graduated from New Haven High School and attended Indiana University. He proudly served his country and was a Korean War Army Veteran. Vernon was a Supervisor with the Allen County Sherriff Department with 25 years of service and retired in 1995. He was a member of Leo United Methodist Church, Leo Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and the Mizpah Shrine. He was an avid IU basketball fan and enjoyed spending time at the lake. Vernon loved his family and absolutely adored his wife, Patsy. He is survived by his daughters, Pamela (Jay) Stillwell of Leo, IN, Kimberly Burkett of Fishers, IN; siblings, James Burkett of Indianapolis, IN, Connie Farley of Fairmont, IN, Debbie Tyler of Angola, IN, Wayne Burkett of New Haven, IN; grandchildren, Emily, Paige, Adam, Tiffany, Steven, Marc, and Kaylee; and great-grandsons, Kade and Cooper. In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patsy K. Burkett; siblings, Jerry Burkett, LuEllen Witmer, Kenneth Burkett, and Beverly Ann Burkett. A funeral service to honor Vernon's life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 1, 2022, at D.O McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, with visitation one hour prior. A visitation will also be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at the funeral home, with a Masonic service to begin at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations in his honor may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Patsy.
