Virginia T. Gibson, 89, passed away August 5th, 2024. In her final hours, she was surrounded by her family, and through prayer was granted the grace of final goodbyes and a peaceful death. Born In Fort Wayne on January 28, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Alvy and Mary Vachon. She was a devout Catholic (a member of St. Charles Borromeo most of her life), a dedicated daughter, wife, loving mother, grandmother and friend. She graduated from Central Catholic High School, and early in her life she felt a possible call to the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration in Mishawaka. In her time there, she discerned that she was called to be a wife and mother. She worked at Rea Magnet Wire, and St. Charles as a cafeteria manager.
Charity and prayer was the root and foundation of her life. She was a humble woman of prayer with a great devotion to Mother Mary. She went to Mass daily and was a prayer warrior including being a part of the Widows of Prayer, praying for her children, her country, and the many problems in the world. She was very active in the Church, she led Rosaries, helped clean the church, sorted clothes for the poor, sang in the funeral choir, and worked at funeral dinners. After her brother Al's passing, she continued his mission of making rosaries, sending them to missions, and repairing rosaries for others. She also volunteered in organizations like Women's Care Center, Franciscan Center, and Girl Scouts.
Virginia was an artistic soul, making many crafts, toys, wedding and birthday cakes (of which she also sold), and was a member of the Sewing Guild. In her free time, she loved playing games and liked to win (and did so often), and was an avid watcher of EWTN, Lawrence Welk and Wheel of Fortune.
Surviving are her children, Ronald (Deb) Gibson, Joseph (Diane) Gibson, Karen (Dan) Hoagland, Raymond Gibson, Deborah (James) Piet, and Michael (Angie) Gibson; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren (one on the way); brother, Melvin (Gloria) Vachon of New Haven; and six grand dogs. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Gibson; siblings Eugene, Richard, Alvin, Jerry Vachon, Rita Grieze, and Alvina Minnich.
