VIRGINIA M. HOLLMAN (Ginny) was born Wednesday, April 18, 1934, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the daughter of Frank and Hulda née Salzbrenner Sonne. She was born anew in the waters of Holy Baptism on Sunday, May 6, 1934, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, by Pastor Paul L. Dannenfeldt. She affirmed her baptismal grace and was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran faith on Sunday, March 21, 1948, also at Zion, also by Pastor Dannenfeldt. Ginny’s confirmation verse was Isaiah 54:10 — “‘For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,’ says the LORD, who has compassion on you.”
Ginny was united in Holy Matrimony to Richard M. Hollman on Saturday, July 18, 1959, at Zion, by Pastor Ronald C. Starenko. The Lord blessed this union with three sons and three daughters. According to their promises, Dick and Ginny were faithful to each other for the 63 years the Lord granted them.
Ginny went to grade school at Zion, high school at Concordia Lutheran High School, and college at Concordia Teachers College in River Forest (studying organ with Paul Bunjes). She taught 1st and 2nd grades at Central Lutheran and Zion Lutheran Schools. She also taught art and music and directed the Children’s Choir at Zion. She was an excellent musician, who played the organ for Zion and sang in various prestigious choirs in the area. After she was married, she worked at City Glass Specialty until retiring in 2014.
Ginny is survived by her husband of 63 years, Richard M. Hollman; brother Paul Sonne; sons Michael (Sarah) Hollman of Fort Wayne, Robert (Gretchen) Hollman of Overland Park, Kansas, and Mark Hollman of Fort Wayne; daughters Kathleen Schweikert, Anne (Rev. Dr. Roland) Ziegler, and Beth Ann Hollman, all of Fort Wayne; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Hulda Sonne, her brother Richard Sonne, and her sisters, Dorothy Warfield and Alma Ramm.
Ginny abided in the faith to the end of her earthly life as a member of Zion Lutheran Church, confessing her trust in her Lord Jesus Christ, hearing God’s Holy Word, and receiving the Sacrament of Christ’s Body and Blood.
Ginny was called home to her Savior on Sunday, December 11, 2022, living 88 years, 7 months and 24 days on earth, and alive in Christ forever!
