Walter Leo "Butch" Scott, Jr., age 88, of Auburn, Ind. passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. He was born on September 16, 1936 in Napoleon, Ohio to the late Walter L. and Annabelle Scott Sr. Walter graduated from North Side High School, Class of '54, and served as the student manager for the basketball team. Butch began his career with Roger's Markets at the age of 14, as a clean-up boy, and retired as Director of Meat Operations in 1992 after forty-two years.
Butch had many hobbies and interests, especially classic cars; from drag racing in his youth, to restoring his '39 Ford Business Coupe and old Chevy Truck from the ground up. When he wasn't working on his restoration, Butch could be found on the golf course, watching the St. Louis Cardinals or I.U. Basketball, fishing at the lake, or attending classic car shows. Thursday night was reserved for dates with his beloved wife, Carolyn, eating at local restaurants especially Hall's Factory and the St. James. Butch and Carolyn also enjoyed cruising to tropical destinations but cherished time spent with friends and family the most.
Butch is survived by his loving and devoted wife of thirty-nine years, Carolyn; children, Debbie (Scott) Kohne of Cary, N.C., Gale (Terry) Diederich of Garrett, Ind., Linda Scott of Tampa, Fla.; step-sons, Steven (Lili) Hand of Auburn, Ind. and Daren Shaffer of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Patty Jo Heath.
Funeral Service is 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 28, at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Pine Valley, 1320 E Dupont Rd, Fort Wayne with calling one hour prior. Friends and family will also be received from 4 - 7 p.m. on Monday, January 27 at the funeral home. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
