William was the beloved son of Wesley and Evelyn (Schlosser) Dunkin, who preceded him in death. With a brave, steady spirit and a life marked by quiet devotion, he was cherished by those who knew him and will be remembered with enduring respect and gratitude.
William served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged, having served during the Vietnam Era. He later worked as a dietary worker for Lutheran Hospital, a role that reflected his dependable nature and dedication to everyday service.
In his personal life, William found joy in simple, faithful pleasures—attending Komets and Tin Caps games, spending time as an avid reader, and working word searches with the kind of patience that made ordinary moments feel meaningful. He also loved animals and took comfort in listening to music, interests that spoke to a gentle attentiveness and appreciation for life’s quieter gifts.
William is survived by his beloved cat, Mindi; brother, Duane (Janet) Dunkin of Harlan, IN; his sister, Lori (Allen) Hooley of Fort Wayne, IN; nieces, Malissa and Sara; nephews, Kirk, Brian and Tim; and 4 great-nieces and 2 great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Dunkin and Richard & Kathy Dunkin of Fort Wayne, IN.
A graveside service will be held at Highland Park Cemetery & Mausoleum, 2403 East Wallen Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46825, on June 29, 2026, at 2:30 pm.
