Winfield L. Vachon 91, of Fort Wayne passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024. He was born on August 17, 1932 in Fort Wayne, a son of the late Sylvester and Clara (Weller) Vachon. Winfield graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1952. He served in the Korean conflict from 1952 to 1954. He worked for International Harvester and retired after 31 years of service. Later he went on driving a bus for Fort Wayne Community Schools for 13 years. Winfield enjoyed spending time with his family at the lake. He had a passion for saying daily prayers with his wife and attending daily mass.
Winfield is survived by his wife of 71 years, Patricia (Gildea) Vachon; children, Cynthia Vachon, Jeanne DuMont, Lori (Douglas) Jehl, Sandra (Michael) Savage, David Vachon and Stephen (Kristy) Vachon; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Marvin Vachon; and sisters, Myrna Kendrick, and Karen Sims. He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Vachon; and four sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church 4500 Fairfield Avenue Fort Wayne, Indiana 46807 with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, April 22, 2024 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals 6810 Old Trail Road Fort Wayne, Indiana 46809. Burial to follow the service at St. Aloysius Catholic Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Fraternus, a Catholic brotherhood for all ages.
