Bonnie was born in Evansville, Indiana, on November 26, 1950, to Fred and Helena Mills. Her childhood was filled with dance performances, summer camps, lifeguarding, and a joyful spirit which would remain with her throughout her life. She was a graduate of Reitz Memorial High School Class of 1968 and later earned a B.S. from Indiana University School of Nursing in 1973.
In 1974, Bonnie married John August, and together they created a family centered around love, laughter, and unwavering support. She was a devoted mother to Allyson August, Justin (Megan) August, and Jason August and a proud grandmother to Adam and Lilly August, who brought her immense joy.
Bonnie had a rare gift for making people feel heard and valued. Her beautiful smile could light up a room, and her fun-loving nature left a lasting impression on everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. Whether it was through her work as an RN at Lutheran Hospital, her many years volunteering at St. Joseph Catholic School, or the quiet ways she showed up for those she loved, Bonnie spent her life caring deeply for others.
As a Colts and longtime IU football season ticketholder, Bonnie tailgated and attended games with family and close friends. She could quickly be spotted by her bright blonde hair, making it easy for nearby fans to find their seats. One of her final joys was traveling to Pasadena, Atlanta, and Miami to witness IU’s unimaginable National Championship run.
Bonnie had a passion for interior design and enjoyed transforming spaces into warm and welcoming places. She loved tending to her yard, spending time at the lake, taking bike rides, and listening to her favorite podcast, 'History That Doesn’t Suck!' She found her greatest sense of peace vacationing in Kaua’i, watching sunsets, and praying in a quiet church.
Bonnie is survived by her children, grandchildren, brothers Kenneth (Ginger) Mills and Jim Mills, along with cherished nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother Ron (Judy) Mills.
