God gained our angel the evening of April 15, 2019, when our beloved Agnes Yvonne Bushong Simpson gracefully returned to Him leaving a legacy of family and friends to continue the path of faith, charity, hope and humility that she graciously followed in her life on this Earth.
Yvonne was born in Tynan, Texas in Bee County near Corpus Christi and lived in that area until her parents moved the family to Austin. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School and developed lifelong friendships with Elaine Attal Ciani, Frances, Maryann and others.
After graduation, she married Harold Simpson and supported him through Engineering School at the University of Texas at Austin while she worked at the Texas Department of Public Safety during the tenure of Col. Garrison. She and Harold had three children - Harold "Bubba" Simpson, Jr., and identical twins Dorothy Lee & Linda Marie.
They later moved the family to Fort Worth where Yvonne lived her true calling and passion as a Caregiver and Babysitter. Affectionately known as "Nanny" or "Mommy Sim" to her 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and countless children of close friends she helped raise with unconditional love through their adulthood.
When her husband, Harold, passed unexpectedly after 40 short years of marriage, Yvonne remained strong as the family matriarch guiding her progeny. She was the epitome of “Mind over Matter”, committed in life, persevering through her failing physical health because she knew she still had more of God's work to do.
Over the last few decades of her life, some of her favorite moments were having family over for the holidays, teaching her recipes to the next generations, watching any and all sports, but especially her beloved Texas Longhorns, attending a presidential inauguration, meeting country singer Charlie Pride (twice) and visiting with her friends. Her door was always open and a meal always shared. During the course of a phone call, one could quickly be briefed with any team’s score and ranking, athlete’s standing, weather, local or world wide politics and accurate family history. If bad weather was headed your way, Yvonne always reminded loved ones to keep their shoes by their bed.
As her physical health deteriorated, her mind and faith remained. She was blessed with wonderful neighbors and her own guardian angels who cared for her and came to her rescue (such as Michael, Joy, Mario and Lupé and Ronnie) more than once, and kind caregivers Louisa, and Alba & Leslie (whom she considered family). Her life continued to be filled with miracles up to her last days.
She also loved her parents, 3 brothers Howard, Bobby and Glendon; Big Sister Dorothy; cousin Blanche Cowan; the Cole family; Corey Cole, Sami Moss; and extended family and friends very much.
She was grateful to always be surrounded by angels and to be a vessel for God's works - her door was always open.
She is survived by her son, Bubba Simpson; daughter, Linda Robinson; son-in-law, Ron Strebeck and all of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandson.
