Allen moody entered the gates of heaven on May 8, 2024. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all whose lives he touched. He was a devoted follower of his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Allen was born on August 23, 1930 in Bluff Dale, Texas to Allie Byrn and Millie Jane Moody. Throughout his high school years in Stephenville, he played basketball until their season ended. He also played baseball for the Stephenville Yellow Jackets as well as a semi-pro team in the 1940s.
In 1948, age 18, Allen came to Fort Worth and began a 43-year career with Southwestern Bell- AT&T. During his time at Southwestern Bell, he won many awards for his diligent service. From 1951 to 1953, Southwestern Bell gave Allen time off to serve in the United States Army. While in the military at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Allen led their baseball league in hitting. In September 2017, Allen was selected to participate in an Honors Flight to Washington D.C. to visit the war memorials.
After retiring, Allen served his community as a school crossing guard at Shady Brook Elementary for over 29 years. Serving the children and the community brought him great satisfactory and joy.
Allen continued to play baseball into his senior years. Allen said, “God gave me a body that was designed to play sports.” Allen and Betty traveled to tournaments across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Kansas where he participated in the 1995 Senior Softball World Championships. His appreciation for the game led him to coach boy’s baseball in the Little League and Pony League. Allen played the game he loved for over half a century concluding in the 2021 season. The camaraderie with his teammates rendered him lifelong friends. He loved the guys and they loved him.
Gardening was another very endurable passion. He shared the produce he grew what teammates, friend, and family and still had enough for us to enjoy! When extra plants came up, he shared them with all in the neighborhood who would also enjoy seeing the plants grow. Occasionally, someone would get back with us about how much they enjoyed his produce, especially his tomatoes!
Allen loved his family and his church. He served as a Deacon at Tarrant Road Baptist Church. Serving the Lord, he led in Royal Ambassadors molding the lives of young boys into godly men. He attended every choir concert, band concert, musical, sporting events, and more for his beloved grandchildren! Every visit would include a game of catch or basketball on the back driveway.
If Alan's character could be summarized in one sentence, it would be, “He loved.”
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 43 years, Betty Ann Moody; daughters Susan Taylor, Teresa Moody, Jenny Boyd (husband Whit); son Dr. Kevin Dowden (wife Shelley); granddaughters Jennifer Taylor, Tiffany Winters, Stephanie Lantz, Sarah Diaz (husband Andy), Phoebe Smith (husband Ryan), and Prisca Dowden ; grandson Shelby Boyd; great-grandson's Atticus and Phineas Lantz; and many loved nieces and nephews.
