Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.gwspencerdirs.net for the Hernandez family.A Life In Balance
Almira Ruth (Kelly) Hernandez, affectionately known as Myra, was born October 2nd, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York to Emanuel Bayne Kelly and Mary Ruth Haynesworth. She was the first of their three children, including brother Emanuel Jr. and sister Dorothy.
In 1958, Almira married her high school sweetheart, Tomas Michael Hernandez and together they had four children – Tanya Rene, Tomas Michael Jr., Anthony Kevin and Angela Marie.
"Myra" started her career in nursing while raising her first three children. In 1968, Almira and family moved from Brooklyn to Southern California. It was there in Compton, California, where she lived and worked as a dental hygiene assistant. Then in 1971, she gave birth to her fourth child and focused on raising her family full-time. In 1978 her remaining household moved overseas to Saudi Arabia where they lived for eight years and spent time traveling the world and experiencing other cultures. During this time her love for fragrances, oils and herbs grew and she would go on to utilize this knowledge in her entrepreneurial efforts.
Almira and her family moved back to America in 1985. In time, she co-owned a beauty salon, where she served the public, especially the elderly by creating custom-blended therapeutic herbs, oils and self-health care products to address specific client needs. Reflexology was one of the methods she used in her practice. She excelled in this field and became a regional representative for the national association.
As she wound down her career she went back to assisting the elderly through home-healthcare and supportive nursing services eventually pursuing another round as an entrepreneur. Almira always focused on helping and serving people.
Her children and those who knew her best will tell you she was always loving, kind, caring and gentle. She always did her best to take the high road and use a spiritual approach in all that she did. She believed that by knowing and trusting the Creator, you can achieve anything you truly desire. More importantly, you can make it through anything life throws your way.
On October 20th, 2021, Almira answered the Master's call and re-joined her husband, Tomas, in the heavenly realm. To carry on her legacy, she leaves behind her three living children, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a host of beloved family members and friends.
