Al enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 17 years and traveled to many different places, Alaska, California, Thailand, Japan, The Azores and Vietnam just to name a few. On December 24, 1973, he married his love, Margaret Ann Phillips, in Portland, Oregon and to that union were four daughters and two sons.
After 24 years of service to his country, Al retired from Carswell AFB, Texas with the rank of Technical Sergeant (TSgt); he and Margaret settled in Fort Worth. However, retirement did not find Al idle. He obtained an Associate’s Degree in Computer Programming from TCJC and he worked for Color Tile, Cummins, and the City of Fort Worth Water Division from where he retired after 15 years of service.
Although Al accepted Christ at an early age, he later rededicated his life to Christ when he joined Como First Baptist where he was a committed member. Later he joined Great Commission Baptist Church where he remained a loyal and active member until God called him home
.
Al enjoyed such hobbies as cooking, grilling (which would always turn into a family gathering), Jazz, golf (although he didn’t play), computer games, catching up with family and friends on Facebook and just being Al (or Sonny as he was called by his siblings). He was an active member of both The National Bowling Association (TNBA) and the United States Bowling Congress (USBC), bowling in various tournaments and leagues and winning many awards.
Al entered into “Eternal Paradise” on June 7, 2016. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ann Parks, of 43 years, both parents, his brothers: Bobbijo Lamar and John Michael Parks, and a son, Kevin Rose Wilkins.
