

Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Davis Boulevard Baptist Church. Interment: 2 p.m. Tuesday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Davis Boulevard Baptist Church or Baptist Children's Home, 949 County Road 1300 N., Carmi, Ill. 62821.
Alvin was born Jan. 6, 1921, in Cisco to Will and Erna Tonne. He attended Howard Payne University before joining the U.S. military during World War II. Alvin served his country proudly as a navigator and bombadier in the U.S. Air Corps during the war and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a lieutenant colonel in 1965. In 1967 he began his career with the civil service and retired after 20 dedicated years.
After retiring, Alvin donated his time ministering to shut-ins for his church. He loved the game of golf, and was said to have played eight days a week.
Alvin was preceded in passing by his parents and three siblings.
Survivors: Wife of nearly 70 years, Gussie Tonne; children, Andy Tonne and wife, Betsy, Cindy Steen and husband, Gary, John Tonne and wife, Kerry, and Judy Sparger; grandchildren, Jon Robert Tonne, Amy Wood and husband, Brian, Stacey Steen, Megan Johnson and husband, Mark, Dean Baumann and wife, Jennifer, and Mat Tonne and wife, Crystal; great-grandchildren, Macey Wood, Jeremiah Campbell, Miles Johnson and Kayla Baumann; and numerous nieces and nephews.
