André James Hampton was born on February 14, 1960, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Barbara Jean James Hampton and Andrew James “Skid” Hampton. He accepted Christ at an early age at Greater Friendship Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and mentor.
André graduated from Parkview High School in 1978 and moved to Dallas, Texas to attend DeVry University where he graduated with a B.S. in Electronics Engineering Technology. He later returned to DeVry as an adjunct professor and dean of the night school. For over 25 years, André was an Engineering and Operations Director at Lockheed Martin where he focused on Quality and Enterprise Excellence. Throughout his career, he remained committed to creating opportunities for young professionals through mentorship, advocacy, and volunteering. He, along with two other employees, worked tirelessly to create Lockheed Martin’s African-American Leadership Forum which is still in place today. He later went on to obtain his MBA in Engineering and Business Management from the University of Dallas.
On June 11, 1983, André married Lorna Newman Hampton and they welcomed three daughters into their marriage — Crystal, Amber & Jada. He was an active father and loved bike riding, swimming, and playing sports with his daughters — he always supported their academics and extracurricular activities and encouraged them to pursue their dreams. He loved being a grandfather and hanging out with “the grandbabies” — they brought so much joy to the last few years of his life. Watching sports was always a highlight for him, from golf and tennis to basketball and football — his favorite football team was the Pittsburgh Steelers. He loved telling and listening to others’ stories — sharing his life lessons and experiences with anyone he met while also learning more about theirs.
André passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, in Euless, Texas at the age of 61.
He leaves behind a family who will miss him dearly: Wife, Lorna Newman Hampton. Children, Crystal Drumgoole (Kelland), Amber Greene (Isaiah), Jada Hampton.
