Andres Fuentes

Andres was born in Placetas, Cuba the 4th of July 1910. His father was Joaquin Fuentes, a school teacher born in Spain and his mother Amparo Velozo, a Cuban house wife.

Andres was the 5th of 8 brothers of this Cuban family and the only one that went over 100 years!

Andres finished his high school in Santi Spiritus, Cuba and went to work in a big Tobacco Factory where he learned all the tobacco manufacturing process. Once he felt ready to go, he started his own enterprise with a small tobacco Factory that he named “El Recluta”. He succeeded selling his tobacco and grew his business and by this he had a wealthy finance position to support himself, his sisters and his brother.

Andres was a very strong man, hard worker with a much defined goals in his live; he cared about his family his work and had a very straight moral line way of thinking.

Andres got married with Zodeina Del Sol on March 15, 1945. Zodeina helped the family finances by working for a big store located in his living town, Santi Spiritus, where she sews male pants from her own home.

Andres and Zodeina had a son, Lazaro, that was born on March 17, 1952 and a daughter Maria del Rosario that was born on June 21, 1964, both in Santi Spiritus, Cuba. Both are married, Lazaro has a son and Maria del Rosario has three sons and three daughters.

With the communist revolution in Cuba, Lazaro ended being a political prisoner in two occasions, the first was between 1971 to 1973 and again from 1976 to 1979 when he were liberated trough Jimmy Carter intervention and they gave the whole family the possibility to emigrate to the United States.

The family came to the United States on July 25, 1979 and establishes their residence in Tampa, Florida where he had the opportunity to celebrate his 100 birthday with the whole family, including sons, grandsons and great grandsons, including all family members and friends and lived there until August 15, 2011 that moved to Fort Worth, Texas to live with his daughter Maria del Rosario.

Andres passed away on January 27, 2012. Rest in peace Andres!!

ANDRES FUENTES

Andrés nació en Placetas, Cuba el 4 de Julio de 1910. Su padre, Joaquín Fuentes, era un maestro de escuela nacido en España y su madre, Amparo Velozo era un ama de casa Cubana.

Andrés era el 5º de 8 hermanos y fue el único que sobrevivió más de 100 años.

Andrés terminó su escuela secundaria en Santi Spiritus, Cuba y comenzó a trabajar en una gran fábrica de Tabaco donde aprendió todo el proceso de fabricación de tabaco. Cuando se sintió listo, renunció y abrió su propia fábrica de tabaco con el nombre de “El Recluta” y su negocio se convirtió en uno lucrativo, lo que le permitió mantenerse y ayudar a su hermano y a sus hermanas.

Andrés era un hombre muy fuerte, trabajador incansable, con unas metas de vida muy bien definidas y una manera muy recta de pensar moralmente.

Andrés se casó con Zodeina del Sol en marzo 15 de 1945. Zodeina colaboraba con las finanzas del hogar, cociendo desde su casa ropa masculina para una tienda de ropa de su pueblo, Santi Spiritus.

Andrés y Zodeina tuvieron dos hijos, Lazaro, nacido el 17 de marzo de 1952 y Maria del Rosario, nacida el 21 de junio de 1964, ambos en Santi Spiritus, Cuba; ambos están casados, Lazaro tiene un hijo y Maria del Rosario tiene tres hijas y tres hijos.

Con la llegada de la revolución comunista a Cuba, Lazaro terminó en la cárcel en dos ocasiones, la primera de 1971 al 1973 y de nuevo de 1976 al 1979 cuando, por la intervención de Jimmy Carter fue liberado y se le concedió la salida de Cuba a los Estados Unidos a toda su familia.

La familia emigró a los Estados Unidos el 25 de julio de 1979 y estableció su residencia en Tampa, Florida donde tuvo el placer de celebrar su cumpleaños número 100, junto a sus hijos, nietos, bisnietos y demás familiares y amigos en Tampa, Florida y donde, según sus palabras, tuvo el día más feliz de su vida. Vivió en Tampa hasta agosto 15 del 2011 cuando se mudó a Fort Worth, Texas a vivir con su hija Maria del Rosario.

Andrés falleció el 27 de enero de 2012. Descanse en paz Andrés!!
