Anna Jeanette Hodges, age 75, loving sister and aunt, postage stamp aficionado, avid reader of fiction, expert crocheter and cross-stitcher, master crossword and Sudoku puzzle solver, and Renaissance faire enthusiast (huzzah!), passed away peacefully on Monday, June 2, 2025.
All family and friends are welcome to attend a Graveside Service on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 10:00am at Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery, 7301 E Lancaster Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76112 with a Celebration of Life luncheon will immediately follow at an offsite location.
Born August 23, 1949, in Fort Worth, TX to Annie Ervin Hodges and Seeley Hodges, Jeanette embraced her role as a protective sister to her younger brother, Charles. She graduated from Paschal High School and later studied violin at the University of North Texas College of Music. Her love for music even led to an appearance on the Antiques Roadshow to discuss antique French violins.
After college, Jeanette settled back home in Fort Worth where she cared for and enjoyed the loyal companionship of her many pets over the years. She followed in both her parents’ footsteps by joining the United States Postal Service where she dedicated 50-years to public service in various roles including mail sorter, inspector liaison, passport czar, and friendly clerk. She became a familiar and trusted face of all who walked through the revolving doors at the historic downtown Fort Worth branch on Lancaster Street. Jeanette was most proud of her work at the USPS Boutique, where she founded and curated a post office museum while helping customers find rare vintage stamps.
Family and friends could always count on Jeanette’s witty dry humor, classic Texas expressions, and penchant for wearing big jewelry. To her two nephews and eventually her grandnephew, Aunt Jeanette represented the pinnacle of fun. From annual pilgrimages attending the Texas Renaissance Festival to mountains of gifts under the Christmas tree each year, she never failed to go the extra mile to ensure top tier thrills and the happiest moments. Her smile and radiating love will be greatly missed, but her memory will continue as a tremendous source of laughter and joy for all who were blessed to know her.
Jeanette is survived by her sister-in-law, Sharon; her nephews, Nicholas and Gregory; her niece-in-law, Natalie; and her grandnephew, Lucas.
Jeanette is preceded in death by her brother, Charles, and parents, Annie and Seeley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial scholarship contributions may be made in Jeanette’s name and mailed to the Breakfast Optimist Club of East Fort Worth Foundation 501(c)(3): BEFWO Foundation, 1950 Rockbrook Ct, Fort Worth, TX 76112.
