Biography

Artis James Earl was born March 31, 1937 to his parents, Jenning and Marion Earl. He was raised in Tempson, Texas where he attended grade school and graduated from Tempson High School.

Artis accepted Christ at an early age. In 1973, he married the love of his life, Sue Ann. They have been married for 46 years; their love and commitment to each other could be felt by all who know them. In this union, eight children were raised. Artis worked and retired from the University of Texas at Arlington for over twenty years.

On November 22, 2019, Artis transitioned from this earthly place into his place of rest. Artis was affectionately known as “Daddy,” “PawPaw,” “Granddaddy,” “Pops,” and “Unc”. He never missed an opportunity to give a smile and a story for his family and friends. His voice, wisdom, and humor will be greatly missed by all.

Artis Earl was preceded in death by his father, mother, one son, Samuel [“Sammie”]; and brothers: Henry Earl, Royce Earl, and Sterling Gray. His legacy will be remembered and cherished by his loving and faithful wife, Sue Ann; three sons, Gary Don [Jackie], Artis Jr. [Keitha], and Nephew Brazell Scott [“Pete”]; four daughters, Yvonne Shae Reed, LaJuanda Minor [Donald]; Clarissa Allen, and Tameka Gailliard [Myron Sr.]; brothers, Steve Earl (Jennifer), Alvin Earl (Margie), Jenning Earl (Toni), and John Wayne (Sue); two sisters, Dolores Earl and Alma Nary (Willis); and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well and nieces and nephews.
