Aubrey James Holmes, 98, of Fort Worth, Texas, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, September 28, 2020. He was born on September 19, 1922 in Maypearl, Texas to his parents, Carl and Dora Holmes. Aubrey graduated from Venus High School in 1941. In 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army to honorably serve our country during World War II. When Aubrey came back home, he worked as an Attendant of a Service Station where he would meet his sweetheart, Virginia. They were married and together shared a life filled with family, laughter, and love. He worked as a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service for 31 years. Aubrey was a man of many talents. He was a master in carpentry and, with the help of a few friends from the Postal Service, built their family home from the ground work to the trusses. From time to time, he was known to repair cars for friends and it wasn’t unusual for his children’s swing set to be used as an engine hoist. Every Sunday Aubrey and Virginia would make their traditional trip to What A Burger and enjoy their favorite meals while visiting with their friends. Aubrey had a way of making everyone feel like they were part of his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Aubrey is survived by his adoring wife of 74 years, Virginia C. Holmes; sons, James Holmes and wife, Lottie, Jerry Holmes and wife, Cynthia, and Paul Holmes; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends.
