She was born December 3, 1931 to W.L. “Luke” and Verne Duke Huffman at Grandview, Texas. She was a faithful member of Highland Church of Christ for 54 years. Avis earned her Masters of Mathematics at TCU, and went on to teach math at Wedgewood Middle School, Rosemont Junior High, and Southwest High School for a total of 31 years.
Avis was preceded in death by her husband Billy T. Stone. Survivors include two daughters, Jill B. Gill and Rebecca A. Stone; three sons, Robert C. Stone, Billy D. Stone, and James P. Stone; two grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
