Linda was a woman who loved fiercely and held on tight. She was funny and loyal, with a hard-headed streak that served her well through some of the hardest seasons a person can face. She cared for two husbands and a son through cancer, showing up for each of them with the kind of stubborn, steady love that doesn't look for recognition. She fought cancer herself over many years along with other health issues, but her faith in Christ was never questioned and her will to overcome never ceased to amaze us all.
When life gave her lighter days, Linda made the most of them. She loved the beach, country music, any type of sports car and a good plate of Mexican food. She'd light up at the chance to go out to eat with family and friends or just sit and visit awhile. Any reason to be around family and friends and she was there!
Linda lived in Haltom City many years and worked in the customer service department at Harris Packaging where she made many lifelong friends. After speaking to several friends, it seemed very apparent they all felt like they were special to her and that is the very essence of who she was. If you were a part of her life, you felt her love, were comforted and warmed by her smile/ laughter and if you never experienced her shout “Hotdog!”, “Hubba, Hubba”, or heard her call you or someone else “little person” you missed out. After her stroke her vocabulary lessened, but her ability to love and communicate love never ceased. You’ll be missed, but we all know you’re rejoicing with Jesus, and we take comfort although our hearts and lives will never be the same.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Birkie and Ameliann Gathright; her son, Christopher Ellis; and her husbands, James Ellis and Robert Parris. She is survived by her brother, Robert Birkie Gathright Jr. and Sister-in-law Jewel Gathright; Sister Marjorie Cason; Nieces: Sheila Christoph & husband Steven, Sharon Sparkman & husband Marty, Nancy Gathright & partner Pam Ribble, Nephews: Bobby Gathright & wife Linda, Kyle Gathright & wife Carla. Numerous great (great-great) nieces, and nephews. Step-children: Robert Parris Jr., Shane Parris and Angie Parris Campbell.
A very special thank you to the staff at Eagle Crest in Azle for the wonderful care and love shown to Linda, especially Judy. Additionally, we’d like to thank Gentiva Hospice under the care of Dr. Marshall Morrison. We appreciate the many loving hands that comforted her in her last days and the care of her friend, Carol Mudry, through out the years.
A life well-lived and we know Linda’s wish would be for all to know her Savior, Jesus Christ.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Judes (She loved children!) or your local animal shelter.
