Janice was born on January 11, 1933 in Fort Worth, Texas to Jess and Irene Dossey. Janice attended Arlington Heights High School and graduated in 1950. During her time in high school, Janice met the love of her life, Richard Lee Hines. He was introduced to her through her brother Weldon, a teammate of Richard’s on the baseball team. They got married in 1950 and shortly after their marriage, they moved to College Station while Richard attended Texas A&M. They returned back to Fort Worth following his graduation and lived in South Hills and Wedgewood for many years and raised their 3 children there.
Janice was a homemaker prior to working at the Fort Worth National/Chase Bank. For 11 years, she worked in many departments, but towards the end of her career, she focused on mortgage loans. After her retirement, she devoted her energy and love into the care of her husband.
After her husband’s passing in 1992, Janice became a member of the First Methodist Church in downtown Fort Worth with her friends. She loved line dancing at the senior center and performing at the Fort Worth Stock Yards, nursing homes, gun clubs, and many other places for over 25 years. Line dancing had a major impact on her life, as she met many good friends, and got to make other people smile while performing. Janice was an active lady who loved exercising and line dancing, where she met several of her good friends Eve, LaJuana, and Bernice. You could typically find these four, among others, at Braums for coffee or lunch after exercise classes. Gardening, sewing, and reading were also some of Janice’s favorite hobbies. It was a rare occasion that she didn’t have a book nearby. Even though she led an active and busy life, nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family, who affectionately called her Mom, Granny, and GiGi. Janice also adored her dog, Georgia, who she spoiled rotten at every chance she got.
She is preceded in death by her loving parents Jess and Irene Dossey, her beloved husband Richard Lee Hines, her brother Weldon Dossey, and her son Richard Paul Hines.
Janice is survived by her children Cheryl L. Prehn (David Prehn) and Karla S. Potter. Her grandchildren Erica R. Berry (Ty Berry), Aimee M. Coleman (Jeremy Coleman), Jessica N. Boyd (Shane Boyd), Jeremy R. Potter, Jonathan A. Potter, and E. Maddie Potter. Her great-grandchildren Kaylee R. Daniels, Braelyn R. Berry, Lacey R. Berry, Heidi R. Berry, and Liam D. Coleman, Henry M. Coleman, Aiden John Coleman, and Emma E. Boyd and Zachary L. Boyd.
